Synth EP Review: “We Saw The Future” by Vertebre

by Karl Magi

Vertebre’s “We Saw The Future” takes a symphonic journey into a dark future world tinged with loss, pain and a small flicker of light in the umbral gloom that enfolds everything. Daniele Marinelli and Adriana Marinucci weave a musical tapestry that engages me deeply.

“Landed” opens as stentorian tones vibrate, forming a steady support. Shadowy heaviness emanates from the depths while an echoing voiceover intensifies the horror-laden atmosphere. Ringing notes tremble alongside distant, computerized textures before Adriana Marinucci’s electric violin shivers in tiny bursts of fractured sound.

Daniele Marinelli’s steadily trembling synth echoes with tense domination as bass snarls with hellish force. An expanding synth wriggles densely while tremendous weight rumbles beneath. Fragile chimes cry out as the main melody is carried by a horn-like synth that radiates fearful emptiness. The steady pulsation creates a hypnotic effect as the violin intertwines with the brassy synth to produce a tremulous disquiet.

I am haunted, filled with a painful sensation as the melody cries out with fractured energy. The seething low end tracks forward with a static-laden pulse. Gem-like notes luminesce above the surging underlayer, which emanates fright. A crying synth is joined by bursting drums that echo in fearful drama. The tapping percussive beat contrasts with the chunky bass surge as the broad drums slowly fade into quiet.

A hammering kick drum smacks hard as sweeping sounds oscillate to launch “We Saw the Future.” As those sweeping currents drift past, as Adriana Marinucci’s darkly rising electric violin fills the track with drama and intensity above the punching percussion.

The violin melody carries damaged affection, heavy with compassion and absence. The instrument’s classical timbre captures emotion in a way that infuses me with its passion. Insectile low-end textures skitter beneath a tenebral synth before the violin cuts in with fierce illumination.

The electric violin’s powerful voice cries out with mingled passion, dread and melancholy as it plays a central role. Rumbling bass is split by the violin’s beauty and dynamism as it leaps through the track. An arpeggio spins the energy higher and the violin shines with irrepressible wildness before silence falls.

“Butterfly Effect” starts with insistently pounding percussion and slashing sounds that circle through the music with hungry danger. Deep piano notes carry a sense of looming threat while the violin sings a melody aching with damaged emotion.

Rattling, twisting percussion moves alongside a thumping kick drum as the emotive violin cries out, full of deprivation and pain, yet touched with a gentleness that moves me. The way Adriana Marinucci’s electric violin intertwines with the hammering drums creates a surge of percussive energy, contrasting with a feeling of brokenhearted desolation.

Daniele Marinelli’s piano chords add weight as the jumping beat supports the violin, which fills the music with woodsy warmth and complex, contradictory emotion. The low-end heartbeat persists while the violin howls with wounded feeling and metallic percussion fades into silence.

Piano notes usher in a serene space that brushes tenderly to begin “Cyberspell.” Colossal bass pulses in an even flow as piano and glistening tones intermingle. Glassy tones gleam above crystalline patterns while the kick drum drives forward and Adriana Marinucci’s violin lines reach skyward.

Optimism tempered by potential threat fills the track as twirling arpeggios skip with energetic force. Diamond-like tones flash while drums burst and a minor-key melody adds a trace of ache. Dawn-touched hues glow with tentative luminosity as the violin sings with noble, ancient strength over charging low end.

Daniele Marinelli’s radiant notes mingle with strings as they flicker and climb, capturing me with thrilling momentum. Racing undercurrents heighten the drama while shimmering lines float above. The violin saturates the music with passion and soaring feeling before a crescendo blooms, howling electric guitar flooding the sound with ardent positivity and intricate complexity, until the track exhales to a close.

“Dead Cities” comes into being with Stygian bass looming as terrified notes rise in intense brilliance and the electric guitar echoes with a melody full of dark import and ferocity while descending chords sparkle. A spinning synth pattern charges forward with restless energy as the drums assault the track and Adriana Marinucci’s violin soars with feeling, twisting through the music with spectral mistiness.

Daniele Marinelli’s electric guitar climbs, victorious and majestic, above wildly explosive drums that pound ahead with relentless force. The violin intertwines with lush vibrations as the shattering underpinnings rave beneath it. Rapidly cutting bass strikes add jagged weight before silence falls.

Hollow, fragile tones tremble with fearful tension as they mingle to open “No Way Back.” Aquatic textures bubble upward while floating high notes echo into open air. Bass strikes with tremendous force and reverberates outward as electric violin lines drift in spectral delicacy and drums skitter restlessly.

The violin releases splintered emotion that pierces the heart before the rhythm accelerates. Daniele Marinelli’s electric guitar sings with majesty and pain while the violin cries out in plangent sorrow. Crushing bass snarls as ethereal tones wander and Adriana Marinucci’s violin trembles with heart-rending intensity.

Drums surge, then settle into a grounded beat as the main melody is carried by the violin, calling out with profound tenderness and lack. Electric guitar adds gravitas while shining notes levitate and vast bass spreads beneath sobbing highs. The shattering low end rises once more before tightly wound tones drift into quiet.
