Synth Single Review: “Banquet” by Echo Wolf

by Karl Magi

Echo Wolf’s “Banquet” climbs with an ancient choir and an intertwining pipe organ in the distance as a creaking door opens and the underpinnings smash with intimidating muscle as crushing force rips from the main melody. Tones spin out and tumble downward above the hammering before glass breaks and quickly tapping sounds rush past.

A choir contributes a worshipful, mysterious feeling as the underlayer adds tension before speeding forward with a mad laugh. The percussion is threatening and full of awesome force, a sense of the sublime pouring from the darkness.

Jagged tones undulate with ragged laceration before the track jams forward aggressively, attacking the ears with ferocious dynamism. I gather a sense of shadowy power and crawling danger from the music as it crushes and growls with irresistible strength. Impressions of deadly, unpredictable creatures flow before the track ends on reverent pipe organ and a wild laugh.
