Synth Single Review: “Echo Protocol” by SkelOne
by Karl Magi
SkelOne’s “Echo Protocol” is saturated with a dark technological aura. The track opens as slashing bass echoes into open space while a crisp cymbal clicks into the music and a snare begins to pound alongside a seething synth. Notes tumble and surge with foreboding as a rounded synth spins overhead and the grating low end charges forward with terrifying force. Mysterious tones revolve into the void while serrated bass slices through the mix.
Hammering drums drive onward with a fractured texture that lacerates the sound in harsh clarity. Lucent notes trickle above, sharply contrasting the raging textures below. I’m drawn to the velocity and intensity that permeates the track as a twirling arpeggio moves with machine-like precision. High notes ratchet up the tension, spinning relentlessly with undimmed power.
Computerized tones echo in sharply trembling, repetitive patterns while the drums tick forward and the fierce low end tears through with sawtoothed muscle. An accelerating figure whirls upward as stormy underpinnings rage beneath a percussive onslaught. Tension surges again when spinning tones cascade over one another and razor-edged bass lines cut deep. Finally, smoothly dancing notes rise and call out before the track closes.
