Synth Single Review: “Last Train to Kyoto" by LightSource
by Karl Magi
LightSource’s “Last Train to Kyoto" creates cinematic imagery as it unfolds. The track flows into existence as a vibrant synth comes together in a sonic pattern that evokes a drifting landscape. The drums, played by LightSource, generate the sensation of rails blurring beneath a speeding train as it moves onward.
The music’s hypnotic nature evokes watching the world pass by from the window beside your seat, creating feelings of contemplation and warmth. The lead synth permeates the track with a sense of calmly enjoying the Japanese countryside as one glides past it. Its luminous tones paint images of sunlight sparkling on a river and the green shapes of distant hills.
Mellowness is a signature of this piece, generating relaxation and trance-inducing motion while LightSource shapes the music with his drums. As deeply resonating tones intermingle, the sense of a continuing journey carries the track gently to its conclusion.
