Synth Single Review: “Meet Me” by Donna Lewis & David Lowe
by Karl Magi
Donna Lewis & David Lowe’s “Meet Me” captures all the happiness and warmth of a familiar relationship. The song commences as an easily flowing beat moves alongside a full-sounding, luscious synth while Donna Lewis’ voice flickers through the music. Her whisper-soft, honey-sweet vocals carry a joyful melody as it dances above the kick drum.
The vocals levitate breezily as echoing sounds shift in the distance. As the rippling underlayer moves, Donna Lewis takes hold of me with her gentle, airy performance while a string-like synth trips through the music with playful energy.
A fluting tone adds a radiant halo as the vocals drift with diaphanous smoothness and the low end pulses. As Donna Lewis’ voice moves like shimmering fireflies, the underpinnings add shape before frolicking, raised notes breathe out and the drum beat carries the song to its end.
Our storyteller asks the song’s subject to “meet me under the floodlights, where the night-lighted steps lead into the wide-open space between our worlds.” She wants them to meet her beneath the lights and “hold me, a moment of silence, just us,” as they wait for magic to happen within the walls around them.
The narrator asks the song’s subject to “meet me in the center of all things,” and adds, “Don’t speak, I just want to feel this body of light moving in, surrounding us.” She wants to be met with “the promise of something, I don’t know, I don’t care.” She concludes by asking them to “leave the lights on all night, hypnotizing us.”
