Synth Single Review: “Point Zero” by SUNESIS

by Karl Magi

SUNESIS’ “Point Zero” evokes the emotions that the crew of the Artemis capsule experienced after breaking contact with Earth as it begins with reverent, breathy tones joined by thumping drums. Rhythmic guidance shifts beneath gritty bass layers while slowly rising tones capture moments of isolation, shimmering notes like a starry background in the vastness of outer space.

Actively flashing underlayers shape melodic patterns deep with contemplation and feelings of disconnection. An undercurrent of sadness permeates the synth while worshipful notes drift like an ethereal choir. Above them, rising sounds create something noble.

A xylophone twists, creating a sparkling counterpoint, while the percussion snaps and synth transmits a melody both exciting and full of questioning, drawing me into empathy with the crew of Artemis. Notes of uplift rise from the melody while piano keys add a filigreed nuance before the low end closes the track out.
