Synth Single Review: “Snowfall” by Fonz Tramontano & Calida J
by Karl Magi
Fonz Tramontano & Calida J’s “Snowfall” is a simple winter wish. The song starts as bells ring and a synth intertwines with sparkling brilliance. The pounding beat joins the crystalline notes, drifting like fragile snowflakes before Calida J’s voice wraps around me with warmth, contrasting with the glitter and icy brightness of Fonz Tramontano’s production.
The vocals are full of memory and gentleness, carrying the softly caressing melody. As the rhythm pulses, the words reach out to me with their plea for a snowfall. Rippling notes drift like a breeze blowing flakes as the chips of ice in the tones of the melody glisten as though lit by a winter sun. Calida J captures all of the lightness and ethereal sensations of a beautiful winter day.
The melody slides out to curl around me with silken elegance while Calida J cries out with affecting emotion, carrying the chorus that radiates hopeful energy. The underpinnings throb as the cold gleam of the synth contrasts with the warmth of the vocals before the song ends.
Despite the grayness of the city streets, “there’s a sparkle in the frosty air, strings of lights that keep the dark at bay.” Our storyteller points out that winter has arrived, and with it “another tree, another reindeer, another Santa on his sleigh.” However, this year, she doesn’t care for any gifts; it’s “just another winter day.”
She adds, “Ring the bells and deck the halls, write your letters to Santa Claus, let the choir sing peace on Earth,” but she’ll “just pray for snow to fall.” Snow covers the streets, “drifting slowly soft and still,” and each snowflake brings a wintry chill with it.
