Synth Single Review: “Solstice’’ by Aisle 9
by Karl Magi
Aisle 9’s “Solstice” carries with it feelings of change and renewal. The track starts with gently flowing notes drifting above a crackling, supportive pulse. Tremulous tones are joined by solid drums that underpin the tumbling synth melody, which gleams with soft light. Intertwining, chiming notes move between sharply shifting synth lines that tremble with static texture.
The main melody glides with lithe sensations, transmitting hopeful and warm emotional qualities. Bell-like notes flow with tenderness and a delicate glitter, like winter sun slowly growing stronger. The rhythm guides while the higher notes wrap around me and carry me away in a hazy beam of sunlight.
There is a meditation within the music, reflecting the hope brought by strengthening sunlight beneath a winter sky. The underpinnings move forward while the drifting notes vibrate and shimmer like the sun at midwinter, flashing off snow. The drums form a steady frame as the main melody carries out, bringing a sense of change and a brighter future. As the track ends, I let go of my stress and look toward the potential of another year.
