Synth Single Review: “Touch Tones” by Synth Fellow Hawk & Perfect Female Type
by Karl Magi
Synth Fellow Hawk & Perfect Female Type’s “Touch Tones” is drenched in nostalgic radiance. The piece opens as filmy notes drift wistfully, joined by the sound of a touch-tone phone dialing. A slipping texture passes by as a resonant rhythm reverberates and digital tones trickle, while chimes flash with solar brightness. Golden notes glow warmly as the rhythmic dialing pattern adds an intriguing technological accent and a xylophone brings rounded lusciousness.
A brassy, gliding synth generates a mood steeped in warm memory as the dialing tone transmits its distinct digital signature. In the distance, refulgent notes become gently caressing while the main melody sings with elated tenderness. Its touching nostalgia captures me as it slips through the music with a laid-back grace.
The underpinnings pulse powerfully while spinning arpeggios dance, the touch tones adding their unmistakable timbre. A saxophone reaches outward with impassioned depth and sincere emotion, lending vibrant dynamism to the piece before it closes on the same rhythmic dialing motif with which it began.
