Six Months Of Superb Synth - Instrumental Synthwave Singles

by Karl Magi

In the third installment of my six-month roundup, I'm diving into the instrumental synthwave, retrowave and post-synthwave singles that stood out to me over the past half year. These are the tracks that really grabbed my ear, though it's worth remembering that 2025 has been full of exceptional music, making it a challenge to narrow things down.

Toxxic Project & Dynatron - Voices of Void

Toxxic Project & Dynatron’s Voices of Void captures ghostly echoes drifting through vast, ethereal space with haunting beauty. It begins with a poetically drifting voice and vibrating sound that accelerates as colossal bass pulses and misty, floating notes weave through the music. Heavy, concentrated drums and rumbling bass anchor the track while rippling synth, like illuminated fog, flows with pained warmth.

Tragic chords and distant voices deepen the ominous atmosphere as the low end grows ever stronger. Amidst the thunderous drums and bass, a spectrally delicate synth carries a moving, gentle melody that glides peacefully above the brooding power below, until the music dissolves into silence.

Lunarcade & Jack Dorph - Neon Souls

Lunarcade & Jack Dorph’s Neon Souls builds a cinematic soundscape full of moving emotion. It opens with peacefully drifting synths and a richly textured bass, forming a beautiful atmosphere. Radiant melodies rise from the synths, carrying a bittersweet mix of hope tinged with quiet sadness.

Soft, hollow tones drift outward, evoking introspective calm. A burst of sparkling sound signals the return of the main melody, which glides through the music like a nostalgic dream. As the rhythm pulses steadily, I feel carried by waves of memory and beauty, until the last notes gently fade into silence.

DXO & Deckrd - XO24

DXO & Deckrd’s XO24 blends percussive strength with gentle, dreamy feeling as it unfolds. The track opens with distantly shining notes that grow stronger, filling the music with cosmic luminosity, while angular drums and bass drive forward alongside slicing synthesizer tones. A glistening background synth adds a celestial glow as the hard-hitting rhythm propels the music onward.

The main melody floats on an airy synthesizer, dreamy and soothing, radiating hope and calm as it moves through the track. A surging low end provides energetic contrast, creating a dynamic balance against the silky melody. pellucid notes tremble outward and string-like sounds swirl together, bringing the track to a smooth, graceful close.

Cassetter, Cyberwalker & Sleepless Nights - Nocturnal

Cassetter, Cyberwalker & Sleepless Nights’ Nocturnal fuses aggression, shadow and dramatic guitar into a surging, emotional ride. The track kicks off with hard-hitting drums and a rushing bass that slam forward with fierce energy, while a misty, hollow-sounding synth carries a spectral melody.

As radiant synth lines mix with the growling low end, the music builds tremendous weight and power, slicing forward with undeniable momentum.

A flaring synth and flitting notes add points of light before Sleepless Nights’ guitar carves through the track, its darkly yearning melody full of intricate emotion. The guitar solo unwinds passionately, leaping against the driving bass, before gruff textures and a gentle background glow carry the music to a conclusion.

HeartBeatHero - The Next Chapter

HeartBeatHero’s The Next Chapter blends meditative serenity with majestic strength. It begins with deep, slowly tumbling notes that build into a massive, interlocking synth pattern. As the colossal bass growls underneath, the gleaming notes create a trance-like momentum that mesmerizes with their spinning, razor-edged clarity. These hypnotic loops eventually fade into misty, drifting synths full of haunting ache, shadowed by ominous echoes.

A weighty synth shifts in the background as bursts of rough sound haunt the desolate openness. When the percussion returns, it carries a grand, trumpet-like synth that soars with a choir’s majestic resonance, lending the track a triumphant, vast feeling. The final moments float out on elevated, ethereal notes that echo into silence.

Echo Wolf - Entanglement

Echo Wolf’s Entanglement blends tender emotion with overwhelming strength, creating a track full of contrast and feeling. It opens with towering bass supporting a delicate, glimmering synth that carries a melancholy melody, before swooping into gigantic drums and dense, rebounding bass.

The sharp throb of the rhythm contrasts beautifully with the synth’s tenderness. As the bass rumbles on and engaging melodies caress the ears, a profound sense of caring and shadowy power intertwine. Tragedy-tinged synth calls out once more above the heavy drums and bass, until a final exhalation of breath and an emotionally aching, full synth melody carry the track to a powerful end.

SynthPrincipal - Bring Me Closer

SynthPrincipal’s Bring Me Closer merges percussive power with serene melodic beauty. From the start, rumbling bass and a massive, gleaming synth pulse with intensity, grounded by a crisp kick and snare. The lead synth, haunting and graceful, winds through the music with a calming presence.

Bright flickers of sound appear like stars, while descending, string-like notes add to the musical depth. Fragile melodies float above the relentless low-end, creating contrast and emotional tension. As the beat hypnotizes and the synth swirls, I’m swept into a reverent sonic experience. The track climaxes with crashing drums and cascading synth, then closes on a wriggling, glowing fadeout.

The Blue Book Project - Aperitivo

The Blue Book Project’s Aperitivo is a fun and bubbly summer disco journey. The track begins as a throbbing disco beat skips and a nasal-sounding, pulsating synth jumps, while smoothly gliding notes slip underneath. The groove is intense as flashing light twinkles above the steadily tumbling synth pattern. A brassy melody moves with dynamism and positivity, creating a feel-good vibe which I enjoy.

As the trumpeting notes ring out, sharp-edged sounds swirl between them and the drums create a solid pulse, funky and smooth, as piano notes shine and chimes glitter. The music’s floor-filling energy is undeniable as a wriggling synth spins with uplifting strength, swirling through the music with irrepressible joy. A descending note pattern locks in with the groove and the broadly glowing synth descends with a velvety motion. Now a trembling synth pulses as the piano forms an effervescent melodic pattern before the track ends.

Skylane Drive - Desert Trails

Skylane Drive’s Desert Trails evokes the haunting expanse of a sun-scorched wilderness through pulsing bass, glittering arpeggios and yearning synth tones. From the swirling motion of twirling synths to the aching bursts of melody and metallic percussion, the track paints a mirage-like soundscape full of heat and desolation.

Sax-like synths and trembling chimes imbue the piece with a bittersweet sense of longing, while the steady bass and drifting melodies create a sense of vast stillness. As the track fades, it leaves behind the impression of endless trails beneath an unforgiving sun.

Droid Bishop - Return of Gemini

Droid Bishop’s Return of Gemini is a soaring interstellar odyssey through a plethora of synths and radiant guitar work, capturing the exhilaration of cosmic adventure with each note. Towering drums pulse beneath fragile melodies as effulgent synths gleam and guitars ascend with triumphant power.

The music evokes weightless flight and star-drenched wonder, weaving together dynamic energy and atmospheric beauty in a way that feels both cinematic and deeply moving. It’s a thrilling journey across the stars, guided by Droid Bishop’s emotive, space-bound sound.

Rogue VHS & Francois Smith - Luno

Rogue VHS & Francois Smith’s Luno is a track steeped in peaceful emotion and wistful longing, unfolding with a sense of serene beauty. It begins in tranquil space as flickering tones and shadowy bass shift gently beneath a steady, thumping kick.

Lush, rippling arpeggios and a bouncing synth create a warm, pulsing motion, while a sunlit lead melody glows with dreamy tenderness. The drums carry the flow forward as smooth textures and a nasal-toned synth wind with gentle expression.

As the rhythm drops away, shimmering arpeggios and echoing notes trail off like light in mist. Touching melodies dance softly before the bass falls silent and gliding notes drift quietly into stillness.

CODE 89 - Euphoria

CODE 89’s Euphoria is a dazzling, ever-shifting sonic odyssey that pulses with energy and emotional richness. From the opening moments of spacious notes and massive bass, the track unfolds with luminous synths and surging rhythm, drawing the listener into its radiant, fast-moving flow.

Flashing chords, slicing melodies and trembling low-end movement create a dynamic interplay of melancholy and exhilaration. As tempos shift and sparkling notes soar, Euphoria becomes a vibrant ride through cascading light and sound, ending on vitality and wonder.

Cat Temper - Hissteria

Review by Karl Magi

Overall Album Impressions

Cat Temper’s Hissteria is another superbly produced, intensely layered and extremely entertaining album from the king of cat puns and excellent synth-based music. This album is full of exuberance and fascinating synth tones and textures, complemented by a guitar that adds sharp edges and a melodic basis that carries the music forward. Once again, Cat Temper is innovative and full of surprises, making this an album worth returning to again and again.

One of the features I really enjoy about Hissteria is the way ‘80s power pop vibes are mixed with sounds that remind me of New Wave artists. The beat-driven low end blends with well-written melodies that sometimes lean toward an edgier side and other times feel more playful. The result evokes the past without becoming a pastiche. The music feels fresh, even while it proudly wears its retro influences.

Another reason I find Hissteria so entertaining is how Cat Temper intertwines all of his synth sounds with guitar and propulsive percussion to create an end result that’s full of dynamism and fascinating sonic moments. The interaction between the layers results in an album that’s hard to ignore as it weaves together different tonal and timbral elements into a cohesive and ear-pleasing whole.

I’m also enamoured with the album’s melodic content. Cat Temper has written catchy, fun melodies that also contain an emotional core and a sense of playfulness. Each melody is distinct and engaging, moving across different moods and expressions. There are little twists in the melodies I enjoy as Cat Temper throws curveballs that keep the interest level high.

My Favourite Tracks Analyzed

“Mewphoria” comes to life as a scintillating synth flies out with explosive bass and pounding drums. Now the electric guitar cuts in with fierce radiance as it drives powerfully. The synth continues to arc in electric brilliance as the low end seethes and tumbles. The bass is heavy as an intensely flashing synth calls out in a melody full of victorious liveliness.

The snare drum touches more lightly before the brilliant synth shimmers on. The guitar growls with ferocious dynamism. A worshipful choral sound moves before the guitar snarls and intertwines with the lucid synth. I am drawn to the freedom erupting from the track.

Slightly discordant, luminous synth slowly tumbles while blinding notes add accents. The guitar roars with dominating power now as the drums touch gently and the bass floats. Now the guitar charges with raw strength and a gruff edge as the drums pound again. The bass oscillates heavily and shadowy piano slams in as the bass continues to add a threatening feeling.

A slashing, glistening synth carries a worried melody to begin “Purromania.” As the melody moves on a tautly wound synth, a sense of growing power permeates the music. The guitar growls with intense vigour and the medium-high, glimmering synth carries a hauntingly powerful melody that moves above the pounding drums as they accelerate along with the raging guitar.

The snare drums and cymbals add even more dynamism as the elevated synth spins out in a melody with ominous import. Tension thrums through the music as the electrifying guitar charges and the pan pipes trickle with a melody that is both ghostly and fantastical. I am transported by the ancient-sounding melodic line while the ferocious low end cuts with unrelenting drama.

The pan pipes contribute gentle exhalations as a string-like synth descends to the depths. A twisting synth instrument bends through the music with a melody that whirls and cascades with wild abandon and something wistful within it. As the guitar snarls again, the luminous lead synth cries out and drifts with nervous and haunted sensations.

The guitar continues to rocket along with the leaping synth that swirls and dances with a baroque feeling above the maelstrom of guitar and drums. The leaping synth climbs for the stars before a piano-like synth trickles while strings strum. Now the beat subdivides and the piano sings out with a tender melody before the low end surges and the strings intermingle as the track ends.

“Another Hiss and Run” kicks off with a widely rambling synth that expands with echoing light. A flat-sounding drum beat moves with the slowly shifting, angular synth as it waves forward. The kick drum and bass lock into a steady heartbeat. The notes bounce with a twisting, nasal sound to carry a melody that is slightly aching but full of dynamic life.

Now the rebounding synth moves in undulating lines that suffuse the music with sunlight, while the drum beat continues to guide. The main melody sings on the diamond light of the synth, carrying me along on its dancing journey. The percussion drops away as the sparkling synth echoes into open space, while the bass continues to pulsate.

The drums return as the broadly moving synth shifts in incandescent waves. The bass descends and the synth bounces again, exuding gem-like illumination as the bright notes fly. Orchestra hits explode powerfully while a hollow-sounding synth flicks through the music with engaging liveliness. A medium-high, slightly distorted synth shimmers as the orchestra hits continue to erupt. Quickly tumbling notes fall through the music before the track falls silent.

“C’meow C’meow” begins with chimes that add with haunting light as the solid bass throbs heavily. A computerized-sounding synth moves in a melody that feels ghostly and dense, before the drums punch in. The melody wheels and spins with smooth life while the chiming notes flare with intense light.

The melody becomes easygoing and uplifting, filling me with a sense of relaxed happiness while the drums hit hard. The main melody is tinged with minor key tones, but remains full of progress and discovery. As the lead melody skips out, it fills the music with celebratory strength and a twirling note bends in the distance.

The piano flows through the music with levity and a feeling of pleasure, while the strings intertwine and sing with tenderness. The propulsive drums shift alongside a strangely wandering synth that wriggles as the snare drum pushes onward. Warm chords swell with summer light and the drums drive on. Now the track moves into a slow, wobbling pulse as the main melody continues on the computerized synth and the dark bass pulses smoothly. The melody cries out with frolicking joy as the track comes to an end.

A rushing drum beat and dense, active bass move together as “Demolition Kitten” opens. The open-voiced synth, with its digitized sound, dances in energizing motion as worshipful choir sounds flow in the distance. The low end is propulsive as the computerized synth flows past in uplifting motion. Rounded sounds float above the sweeping low end as it expands, while the drums and bass continue to punch hard.

The electric guitar lacerates with sharp edges as the smoother synth twirls along with it and the reverent, vocal-like synth calls in the distance. The different sonic layers intertwine lusciously as the main melody skips past with a devious feeling and the low end collides.

Now the wildly swirling guitar accelerates madly, filling me with a similar sensation of feral drama. The guitar roars and charges, deepening the sensation of a rushing forward attack. As the smoothly wandering synth flows past, the low end continues to pulse with weight and the background sounds shimmer. The main melody dances through again with playful sensations before the song comes to an end.

“Pour Some Catnip on Me” commences as n angular, oscillating beat forms a danceable pulse. As the beat undulates, the snare drum hits hard and a ringing, glistening synth leaps out with an exciting melody that carries me along with celebratory levity. The low end continues to drive as the gleaming synth cascades and jumps with positivity. The drums flourish and the medium-high, radiant synth bursts with energetic life as the low end continues to oscillate heavily and the drums snap.

Pizzicato notes flicker and the main melody soars again with uplifting happiness. When the melody shifts into a minor key, it adds a sense of suspense to the otherwise dynamic track while the snare drums clatter. A deep bass moves with a twisting synth that fills the music with a spectral moment. The melody drives forward with irrepressible strength as hollow notes in the distance intermingle.

Now the bass disappears, the clicking drums push forward and the tripping synth notes tumble over one another. Gigantic bass thunders as an elevated synth flashes and vanishes into silence. The drums launch once more as the melody wriggles and skips before the track ends.

A wandering, bouncing synth before a rapidly throbbing snare drum pulsation is joined by razor-edged synth sweeping in the distance as “Hair Raiser” starts. Nervous energy fizzles through the music as a minor key, slightly distorted synth undulates with an unmoored feeling while the drums continue to pulse smoothly. The minor key sounds are unsettled and joined by a twanging, metallic synth that bends through the music with a sense of tension before the main melody shifts with angular motion and a hard-to-resist vibe. The way in which the track twists and bends is intriguing to my ears.

A sense of shadow moves as metallic notes descend in broken lines, adding to the feeling of imbalance and uncertainty. The drums keep clashing as the melodic line jerks and trips while the drums flare. Now a gleaming synth pulse repeats hypnotically as the drums snap and heavy piano chords move. The bending, wriggling synth flexes past as the drums flourish and the main melody shimmies and shivers before the track ends.

“Dangerpuss” begins as a shadowed synth expands and contracts while the drums create a catchy beat . The dark sounds bend as a flickering synth spins out a melody full of tension and a strangely howling, twisting synth moves with fiercely bursting drums. The synth’s surging ferocity draws me in as the drums continue to explode with forceful speed.

A quickly dancing synth slices with dark edges as synth notes flash out in a melody with dramatic intent that erupts with blinding light. An intertwining, quickly swirling synth moves like shifting flames as trumpeting notes shine. The chunky guitar growls with battering force while the drums burst with raging force and the bass roars.

Once again, the drums become lighter, moving in a ticking pattern while the taut synth volleys through the music. Radiant notes cry out in an encouraging melody, while the guitar charges underneath with confidence and liveliness. The melody is charming and full of joy as it flies through the music above the explosive low end.

As the synth bounces again, a piano skims through the music while the expanding bass throbs, and the track slowly comes to an end.

Conclusion

Hissteria is another entry in a long list of superb releases from Cat Temper. Once again, it shows his knack for creating music that’s unique and full of life. This is the kind of album that draws me in with its sense of exploration and energy as it keeps calling me back for more.

Six Months Of Superb Synth - EPs

In the second part of my six month roundup, I'll talk about all of the EPs that I’ve reviewed which have caught my attention in the last half year. I hope you'll enjoy my selections and remember that while these represent particular favourites, there's been an enormous amount of superb music from which to choose in 2025.

Bunny X - Never Give You Up

Bunny X’s Never Give You Up is a powerful expression of almost obsessive devotion, conveyed by Abigail Gordon’s emotive vocals and a soundscape of pounding drums, effulgent synths and haunting melodies. The original track pulses with aching intensity, blending desire and desperation, as the narrator promises eternal presence, even in darkness and rejection.

Earmake’s remix brings a brighter, more uplifting dimension to the song, infusing it with well-chosen synths, choral echoes and dynamic energy, while preserving the original’s emotional weight. The result is a journey through longing, obsession and ghostly love, reimagined with hopeful light.

Pyrococcus & Ziberia - Cathartic Dance

Cathartic Dance by Pyrococcus & Ziberia is a vibrant celebration of dance as emotional release and healing, led by Ziberia’s impassioned, soulful vocals and surging piano melodies. The original track channels ferocious energy and freeing joy, as the narrator describes shedding burdens through movement and connecting deeply with one's inner self.

Each remix adds a unique emotional and sonic layer from the jazzy, funk-infused Interruptor Remix to the euphoric drive of Liuos, the haunting industrial textures of JOYSTYCK and the brooding trip-hop depth of Zephyr Nova. Together, they form a powerful suite that transforms dance into a transcendent, cathartic ritual.

Bending Grid & Jolie - Neon Heat

Neon Heat by Bending Grid & Jolie is a passionate, high-energy EP that merges sultry vocals with top notch production across its original track and a series of dynamic remixes. Jolie’s powerful voice drives the emotional core of the title track, expressing longing, desire and nocturnal desperation against a backdrop of pounding drums and dazzling synths.

Each remix brings a unique energy. Lyst’s version adds atmospheric feeling and emotional richness; Aftermour emphasizes intense rhythmic urgency and soaring synths; MAGS delivers a darker, more aggressive edge with distorted textures; and Valoramous transforms the track into a rave-ready EDM anthem with electrifying momentum. Together, these versions create a multi-faceted exploration of yearning and euphoria set in a neon-lit, cyberpunk nightscape.

Karl Vincent - Reveries

Karl Vincent’s Reveries is a synth-based sonic journey infused with expressive guitar work and shifting moods that span from sunlit joy to nostalgic introspection. Each track weaves a vivid atmosphere: from the energetic blaze of “Just Tuning” to the breezy elegance of “Waiting For You,” Karl Vincent’s guitar performances add edge and emotion.

“Coastal Bay” surges with brassy synth power and wild guitar solos, while “Gina” offers sweeping drama wrapped in reverence and soaring melodies. “Daydreaming” closes the album with cotton-candy softness. Panpipes, lucent synths and tranquil rhythms coalesce into a dreamy, summer-hued haze. Karl Vincent crafts a deeply engaging, emotionally resonant experience on this album.

Venturer - Petty Crimes

Venturer’s Petty Crimes conjures images of a dystopian cyberpunk sprawl, all flickering neon and suffocating smog, where danger waits in filthy, shadowed alleyways. “Runaway” blazes forward with angular synths and explosive percussion, its restless melody steeped in tension and chase. Out Runner’s guitar weaves shadow into the fevered chaos, adding gravity to the hurtling motion.

“Night Vices” escalates the intensity with snarling bass, glimmering synths and a ghostly choir that howls across the sonic battlefield, each note vibrating with menacing majesty. “Counterfeit” descends even deeper into the city’s haunted underbelly, where spectral melodies twist through slashing synths and shattering basslines. Rage and ruin dominate, balanced with spectral beauty, as each track weaves through noise and neon, inescapable and thrilling.

Michael Angelaux - Current Affair

Michael Angelaux’s Current Affair unfolds like a tabloid exclusive with synth-fueled drama, telling the story of a pop star devoured by scandal, media frenzy and forbidden desire. From the explosive “Accusation (Intro),” with its breathless news bulletins and surging strings, to the aching radiance of “The Prisoner” as it declares defiant devotion, the EP brims with theatricality.

Tracks like “Darkest Knight” mix mythic imagery with slashing synths and glimmering melodies, while “Scandal” throws barbs and basslines in equal measure, Michael’s voice dripping with fury and bravado. “Dance in the Rain” swells with wounded beauty and emotional resilience, before “Vindication (Outro)” brings the narrative full circle, exoneration delivered in cinematic waves of strings and stormy vocals. This is a scathing, seductive mirror held up to fame, lies and the strange intimacy of scandal.

Tenodi Boris - Sand Dune

Sand Dune by Tenodi Boris is a desert reverie, tracing a lone traveler’s aching pursuit of rebirth through a mirage-streaked dreamscape, where memory and time dissolve like heatwaves. Kosmic Kiss’s spectral voice floats over flickering chimes and throbbing bass, pulling emotion from the sand with every note.

The original track glows with longing, its layered synths and soaring guitar reaching for something unattainable, while Future Analog’s remix deepens the shadows with pounding low end and radiant melancholy.

Alex Vecchietti’s remix washes the journey in tranquil synths and ghostly grace, where distant piano and soaring guitar feel like prayers cast into the wind. Each version expands the desert’s mystery, full of hope, desolation and the soft shimmer of something lost and beautiful.

Temporal Waves - Incoming Transmission

Incoming Transmission by Temporal Waves is a haunting, intricately woven sonic journey where the tabla becomes both a heartbeat and a compass through shadowed urban ruins, windswept voids and astral realms. Each track and remix, whether it's Raphael Weinroth-Browne’s aching cello on ‘Eclipse of an Urban Dystopia”, the post-apocalyptic atmosphere of the “Incoming” suite, or the meditative propulsion of the “Water Temple” and “Cyclotron” remixes brings new textures and emotional dimensions.

From winds that evoke desolation to glittering synths that reflect distant starlight, the EP pulses with organic warmth and otherworldly melancholy. Each collaborator deepens the mood: Pashang’s galactic menace, Dynatron’s serene vastness, Aaron Niles’ dancing synth fire and OLD’s glowing intimacy all echo against Temporal Waves’ singular rhythmic soul. It’s a transmission from somewhere distant yet eerily close, where memory, rhythm and decay are inseparable.

Memory Color - Motion Pictures

Review by Karl Magi

Overall Album Impressions

Memory Color’s Motion Pictures is a stylistically diverse, complex and layered synth-based album that mixes fascinating influences and creates sonic portraits that unfold in melodic lines with undeniable vigour. A neon haze and uplifting vigour permeate the music, shot through with tranquil moments. I enjoy the sonic world being created by the artist as the album unfolds.

One of the factors that draws me to Motion Pictures is the sheer diversity of interesting musical influences. Along with tracks that have strong disco underpinnings, there are moments of ambient relaxation and decidedly retro synth bursts that feel like the best kind of synthwave. I also hear hints of soul, funk and jazz, which only deepen the intensity of the ear-grabbing sonic candy that permeates the album.

I'm also drawn to Motion Pictures’ superb use of synths to intricately weave imagery and create tones and textures. Memory Color has an ear for intriguing and enjoyable synth combinations, along with the ability to pair those sounds to melodic and harmonic elements. As a result, the tapestry that unfolds is luscious and richly pleasing. There are complexities and nuances that come together to form a satisfying whole.

Listening to Motion Pictures is like exploring a brand-new place where the past mixes with the present and the future. The overall atmospherics of the music are full of something nostalgic, but also a sense of yearning and reaching forward toward something fresh. The music that results is a great listen and a journey into some fascinating territory.

My Favourite Tracks Analyzed

“Welcome” starts the album as though it were a jingle for an old school VHS.

String-like synth trickles quickly and the sound of nature moves with soothing leisure to open “Motion Pictures”. Expanding bass rumbles below as gleaming synth flashes are joined by a smoothly driving low-end throb. The synth locks into a melodic pattern that is calming but full of life as the bass undulates and the drums drive. The broadly floating synth continues to split past as the oscillating bassline adds even more momentum.

Arpeggios gently twirl as the string-like synth carries a melody full of yearning, longing and nostalgia. The synth has a smoothly shining quality that adds to the wistful joy, a joy that captures me with its seeking for past happiness. As the low end continues to pulsate, open-sounding notes hover and the electric guitar slowly descends.

Now the drumbeat is gliding while the guitar intertwines and drifts with elegant relaxation. A sense of smooth sailing permeates the music as the drums continue to pulse. The kick drum accelerates now as diamond chimes sparkle and the track rises with warm positivity. The tenuous melody slides out, skipping along with a feeling of celebration and freedom, while the drums and bass press forward. Digital-sounding synth cries out as the warm melody sings with enfolding positivity before the track comes to an end.

“Transmitter” comes into being as a tense, metallic synth pulse moves while misty notes slide and a brightly crying sound briefly shifts. The drums rebound and launch into a steady pulse as the twisting synth swirls with a ghostly sensation and the background swells with ethereal synth. The drums are muscled and propulsive as round-sounding notes cascade smoothly. The bass is heavy as a sprinkle of chiming synth flickers past and gossamer notes float in the distance.

A densely revolving synth pattern calls out as the low end continues to drive. Rapid sonic bursts flit through as the low end pulses. The chimes flicker as the heavily punching drums and thick bass press on. A hypnotic feeling permeates the music as sonic flashes descend. The track floats into a segment in which easy-going synth intermingles and a peaceful sensation flows forth.

A steady disco beat throbs on varied percussion to open “Memory Lounge.” As the repeating, twirling figure spins, the funky beat boogies on underneath. Now the fat and groovy bass booty-shakes through the music as the active, fast air-catching percussion joins it and the smoothly floating synth spins and trends, inducing motion above it.

Twinkling synth shines with starlight as the low end continues to shimmy and the percussion adds a cool, laid-back flavor above the fat bass. The guitar adds more funk, increasing the dance-floor-filling energy that permeates the tune.

I start giving myself up to the rhythm as the drums cruise along. A synth flows with silken relaxation and the chimes flash. Once again, the gigantic low end and the locked-in drums have an undeniably powerful rhythm, drawing me into the boogieing music.

Now the interlocking percussion and bass are cut by a coruscant synth that leaps out with dynamic flair. The percussion smoothly slips as extended synth lines glide peacefully. The percussion is continuous and propulsive as the vocal sample adds an additional layer of disco feeling.

The low end is dense and massive as the percussion continues to pop along. The chimes flash as sliding sounds descend and the groove continues. Effulgent synth shines out as the track pulses with low-end weight and fills the music with a hypnotic pulse before the track comes to an end.

“Haute Couture” starts as a choppy synth flashes in and out and a vocal clip about haute couture cuts into the music. Quick, jazzy flashes move with a ticking hi-hat as the active percussion rolls along with trumpeting notes that leap out above the hard-hitting drums. The low end cruises into a disco-influenced pulse, full of groove and heart, while the synth cuts in cleanly.

A rounded, baritone sax-like sound wriggles through the music as the low end locks into a punchy beat. Flaring synth jump with energizing luminosity while the low end shimmies. The diverse percussion adds more ear-pleasing feeling as the sax-like sound moves out. The drums and bass move into a different tempo and rhythm—still groovy, but a little cooler and more tranquil. A nasal-sounding synth whines with twisted sound while the groove remains undeniable.

The vocal sample returns as the leaping sounds dance above the ticking hi-hat. I feel myself moving to the beat as radiant synth jumps out and bongos ripple below. The sonic layers are rich and deep as the scintillating notes shine and the disco feeling drenches everything. As the track comes to an end, the drums intertwine before they fall silent.

A heavily throbbing disco beat shakes its way into the track with energetic motion to begin “Earplanes”. The beat is addictive and strongly shaping as electric-sounding zaps move along with actively oscillating bass. Radiant synth zip into the music with bright dynamism as drifting sounds move in undulating whirls.

The track has a strongly driven disco energy as the elevated synth shifts with a jazzy, dancing melodic line and a nasal-sounding synth cries out with a super cool melody, full of smooth, sensual life. The bass shifts as chimes entangle and the beat throbs again, weaving into the funky low end while a steady triangle sound glitters.

I enjoy the infectious nature of the track as it gets down with a chilled-out vibe. The elevated, shiny synth adds a lustrous quality as the percussion moves distantly and the fat bass pulses. As the track comes to an end, the drums move in dynamic lines while the funky guitar pulsates and the music fades.

Chimes trickle past and the worshipful synth cries out as arpeggiating notes twirl again. The drums launch and haunted noises plane out in an extended line while bursting sounds add more sheen. The low end is a strong heartbeat as the track fills me with meditative energy. The floating synth in the distance adds tranquility while the muscled drums add weight. The track ends as the drums rebound and the lead synth trembles into silence.

“Resurrection” begins as serene sounds wander on a calming background, full of ethereal lightness. A steadily spinning note pattern moves above gigantically throbbing bass, creating tension and a sense of motion. The background continues to glide in placid waves before the pumping beat adds propulsion.

An intensely wound synth figure twirls out as the bass oscillates and the drums create more vitality. As the snare drum raps, spectral sounds drift and the twirling synth adds more tension. As the low end drives, a medium-high synth pulsates in addictive motion as the arpeggios swirl. The clean snare drum and thick bass move the track forward.

The low end presses on as nasal-sounding synth intermingles. I enjoy the feeling of progressive forward motion permeating the music here. The drums continue to add diverse sounds while raised synth flash with shimmering light and the taut synth weaves together.

The low end continues to punch as a delicate synth floats in the distance. The bass is resonant as the high synth gleams with dynamic forward motion and hollow notes ring metallically. The track moves forward with force as the raised synth spins together and dances out. Unique percussion sounds are joined by a soaring guitar, which has a sense of free abandon to it. The drums continue to rebound and the guitar flies out, carrying a sense of escape and liberation before the track ends.

Coruscating brass bursts and a solid bass thud is joined by a shimmering synth that trickles through smoothly as “Swimming Pool” starts . The main melody is full of flickering light as it shimmers and the driving low end has an energizing punch. Orchestra hits add even more dynamism.

Lushly intertwined drums move with the brassy synth, which are joined by intense glow as a trickling note pattern falls rapidly. The sparkling notes all ripple with story-like motion as the low end bounces and the bass throbs. I enjoy the relentless motion here along with the uplifting positivity as the orchestra hits shine and a piano-like synth carries interesting chords.

The trickling notes add sunny luminosity as the low end pulsates. There are tom hits and a warming synth that interlock with the metallic light around them before the drums continue to cruise. The track drifts into a silky section in which a cosmic synth descends in a soothing melody and bright synth glimmers.

Once again, the angular low end continues to push forward while the orchestra hits leap and assorted percussion adds a unique feeling. The chords are full of life and the entire track exudes a feeling of speeding motion while the luscious chords intertwine. Orchestra hits fly and the chiming synth trembles while the slicing low end continues to guide the music.

“Spektra” starts off as a tenuous synth flow and the sound of a video tape being inserted moves with slightly threatening bass. A reverberant arpeggio spins as the drums jump and twirl and the bass drives on. Handclaps send an orchestra hit flying and the ticking percussion adds form while the bass cuts with shadowy depth.

A caressing sound rises with tendrils extending around me and the electric guitar floats with diaphanous relaxation while the orchestra hit adds light. The low end pulses and drives as the guitar takes me on a journey, sailing out with elegant tranquility. The low end pounds heavily as the haunting synth flows and calls out. Peace permeates the music along with a rising sunset glow and the guitar continues to slip with laid-back tones.

The guitar has a comforting presence that wraps me up in a cozy sonic blanket while the drums and bass guide the track. The propulsive drum beat contrasts with the hovering guitar while the track cruises on. Raised synth sparkle and a distant sound cries out while the trembling drums move and the guitar fills the music with a feeling of reassuring tenderness before the track ends.

Conclusion

Motion Pictures attracts me with the atmosphere and energy it exudes. The way in which it evolves and explores soundscapes makes it a listening experience I feel like repeating over and over again. The fact that there's a strong groove that underpins everything only makes the music more fun to listen to.
