Synth Single Review: “Before the Dawn” by sea of signs & timesloth
by Karl Magi
sea of signs & timesloth’s “Before the Dawn” carries me on a journey through thought and spaced-out ease. The track starts as warming tones carry a melody that dreams of timeless peace while the background flows outward with solar wind. Rebounding underpinnings add form while crisp drums cut in and ringing tones levitate with cosmic relaxation.
The lead synth glimmers like dawn barely breaking on the world’s edge while breathy notes float like stars in the vastness of the night sky. Piano-like tones drift with galactic calm, imbuing me with meditative thoughtfulness while the background floats like planets through the heavens. A string-like synth twinkles with stellar luminosity before the cleanly pulsing drumbeat shapes the music’s rhythmic heart.
Distant sounds hover like galaxies while a shifting synth cries out with caressing tenderness, and elevated notes glow like sunrise’s first golden light while the rhythmic underlayer glides on. Spacy sounds wander into openness before the track breathes back into silence.
Synth Single Review: “Coastal Glide” by Innervisions
by Karl Magi
Innervisions’s “Coastal Glide” is pure musical tranquility, enfolding me in relaxed sensations. The track opens with aquamarine lucidity as vibrating sounds tremble off into the distance. Imagery of warm blue water lapping on clean sand and palm trees reflected in azure lagoons fills the music as the shaping beat slips past.
Calm slips all around me, reaching out to wrap me in a relaxing embrace like tropical water flowing around parched skin. The rhythm continues to slowly guide as the melody flows with easygoing, graceful emotion, and the whole track exhales cerulean peace.
The lead synth touches like a steady flow of soft air across my face while the vibrating notes shift as the drums fade away. Percussion returns and the lead synth floats like hibiscus flowers on warm ocean water as the main melody expands through the track with deep clarity before everything fades back into quiet.
Synth Single Review: “Crystal Eyes’’ by Dress To Impress
by Karl Magi
Dress To Impress’s “Crystal Eyes” takes the listener on a journey through complicated feelings. The song opens as the main melody glides past with caressing fragility while ethereal notes sweep. Dress To Impress’s vocals capture uncertainty and loss, carrying the smoothly slipping melodic line as the rhythm presses on.
Rounded notes create an impression of tender touches as crystalline tones trickle and the ticking beat drops for a moment. As the drums return with frolicking life, the chorus echoes with gossamer lightness and a saxophone encapsulates all of the love and deep intensity in the song. Dress To Impress’s engaging voice extends, pulling me into the song’s story.
Far-off notes twinkle with delicate radiance as the throbbing underlayer guides the music. A tapping sound moves as a chiming synth levitates with surrounding gentleness and the chorus captures affecting feeling. The saxophone carries a melody expressing melancholic affection as it moves past with silky elegance.
In the distance, spangled notes hover and the saxophone cries out with fervor before the song slowly flows into silence.
“I was lost, but now I'm found,” and the storyteller is always safe but never sound. As the years drift past, he speaks of an “unknown fate, and unknown fears.” He says that “the people search and they slip away, another door to an endless maze.”
As the sunset radiates colour, time vanishes and he sees the song’s subject standing in the dark with her “crystal eyes.” In hopeless nights, he speaks of looking around and seeing “many faces, fleeting sounds.” As the music plays, they move closer together with their “heartbeats racing, running over.”
Synth Single Review: “indecisions infect my brain’’ by ARPRAXIS
by Karl Magi
ARPRAXIS’s “indecisions infect my brain” captures distinctly uncomfortable and shadowed emotion. The track begins as a rapidly twinkling sound skitters past before a distorted voice speaks of indecisions affecting his brain. The background is unsettled as the broken vocal sounds float with chopped-up discomfort.
Hollow sounds shiver and the sharply rapping beat moves with the grunting underpinnings. The percussion is metallic and shattered as it jumps with growling bass muscle. In the distance, an open-sounding synth writhes with a steadily twisting sound as wet, wobbling notes shift.
The rhythm is gigantic as it drives before fading away into wriggling, threatening sounds. The foundation rams hard and the unhallowed vocals move with dangerous feelings, the drums cutting like knives. ARPRAXIS’s approach creates feelings of displacement and confusion befitting the title. The beat lacerates while the bass snarls before trumpeting notes shine and another chanted vocal line moves.
The rhythmic underlayer is relentlessly heavy and dark while tiny sonic fragments vibrate. All of the musical elements combine into a wall of malevolent sound while the percussive grounding pulse never stops. As the track fades, more shimmering and slimy sounds shift before the massive beat slams the track to a close.
