Synth Single Review: “Clutch Fever” by Neon Shards & Challenger

by Karl Magi

Neon Shards & Challenger’s “Clutch Fever” is an adrenaline-soaked thrill ride. The track begins as a thoroughbred motor roars into life and the beat thrusts forward as the car accelerates ferociously. Speeding notes cascade with brilliance as hammering drums drive onward and the lead synth glows before Neon Shards’s guitar rips into the music like a roaring V8 tearing into the night.

A synth melody explodes with dazzling dynamism, creating a sense of freedom and excitement before the guitar tears with blistering acceleration and trickling notes glimmer like dawn on the sleek lines of a supercar.

A trumpeting synth erupts with a passionately searing melody that sends my blood racing. Neon Shards’s guitar leaps in again to create vivid images of the open road unwinding toward an endless horizon while a powerful sports car charges into the twilight.

Continually slamming drums are like the yellow lines on the highway flashing past while Neon Shards’s guitar howls with the feral abandon of a highly tuned motor. The snarling guitar shreds with irrepressible power as it flies through the music while the underpinnings jam forward and a synth pours molten light before the guitar twists and the track closes.

Synth Single Review: “Messy Love” by Fonz Tramontano & Calida J

by Karl Magi

Fonz Tramontano & Calida J’s “Messy Love” is an exploration of a deep connection. The song comes into being as a hollow sound glides distantly and the main melody combines gentleness and dreamy remembrance as it moves above the shaping rhythm. Calida J’s voice is crystal clear and carries affection while the drum beat pulses with easygoing motion.

As a synth bursts with radiance, Calida J’s voice soars with warming depth, cascading with caring. The foundation is gigantic as tiny notes above it float with sparkling precision before the main melody sails out, its moving emotion capturing me.

The vocals are full of soulful energy while a synth glimmers with encouragement and prismatic affection. The low end guides the music while Calida J’s affecting voice transmits the melody as it flies out above the beat and misty notes shift as silence falls.

As our storyteller says, “I never intend to push your love away,” she explains that her coldness when the song’s subject tries to “pull me closer, hold me longer, kiss my head” is because she expects the other person to walk away like her father did when she was younger. However, the other person stays with “open arms, showing me how I deserve a better love.”

The narrator asks, “Will you still hold me in the dead of night? Can you still love me in the cold moonlight?” She asks if the song’s subject can find a way to live with her “messy love,” in spite of her being broken. She wonders if they can still love her and her messy love.

“I know the things I do can make no sense,” because our storyteller struggles to find the words to explain her thoughts or discuss what she’s feeling. She tries to open up but finds herself walking away, “not expecting you to hang around, not expecting you to see a future.” With more confidence, she says, “But here we are, we’re going far, we make our plans, we’ve got our messy love.”

In conclusion, the narrator asks, “Would you still choose me if we met again? If time reversed and it went way back then? And through my faults would you still find a way to love me in my messy love?”

Synth Single Review: “Innocent Runaway” by Dreamkid

by Karl Magi

Dreamkid’s “Innocent Runaway” contains youthful enthusiasm and more conflicted feelings. The track starts as surging bass moves in billowing waves and chimes contribute fluttering light. The percussion is tremendously propulsive as a synth exudes pure effulgence, carrying a melody which is hopeful and broken in equal measure.

Chimes sparkle with honeyed sweetness while the driving underlayer pushes forward. As metallic chimes ring with filigreed luminosity, Dreamkid’s guitar rises with smooth optimism, calling out with a rich tone while the chimes pour out brilliance and the underlayer rumbles.

As the guitar cuts in, lambent notes flash with youthful energy and create a sense of struggle. The gigantic low end growls while breathy notes hover above it and the chimes add faceted illumination.

After a sweeping sound accelerates, the rhythmic pulse is undeniable while Dreamkid’s guitar unfurls in a solo exploding with unrelenting energy and a feeling of escape, crying out and capturing emotion in a way that I find moving. The drums continue to propel with incredible force as the flying guitar gently fades away.

Synth Single Review: “Losing Control” by Pashang 爬上 & eLxAr

by Karl Magi

Pashang 爬上 & eLxAr’s “Losing Control” speaks about the dissolution of humanity into a digital existence. The song commences as overwhelming bass and digital sounds vibrate together with dire import. Shuddering weight below moves with a fierce synth as it cuts cleanly and the bass looms with ominous power. Alex whispers with danger and bittersweet emotion as the storming underpinnings push forward.

Elevated notes shine with unsettling light as Alex’s voice becomes gentler, tinged with melancholy. Her voice changes again, harsh and deadly, catching me with its sinister feeling. Expanding notes shift below as Alex’s sibilant vocals hiss hungrily.

As the chorus descends, tenderness fills the synth and the vocals touch sensitively. The low end is vast and oppressive while a synth glistens with radiance as it carries a melody that balances harder elements with gentle uncertainty. A heavy underlayer imbues the music with menace while spectral vocals levitate.

Alex’s voice is full of terrifying emotion and pain. The contrasting chorus drifts with a bereft feeling while portentous percussion batters. The breathy pipe-like sounds created by Pashang 爬上 float before the track trails out into quiet.

As her life is erased little by little, the narrator is being infiltrated by “wires in my veins, circuits in my mind.” She begs to be given one more night, asking the other person to “come and hold me tight, let me feel you one last time.”

As each sense is replaced, she says, “I am the future, it’s all mechanical,” with glass eyes, steel lips and a “heart of gears.” With her emotions erased, she stops feeling. As the song ends, she says, “Life begins to fade, tonight is the end. Give me one last moment, let me feel alive.”
