Synth Single Review: “Just Drive” by Dimi Kaye

by Karl Magi

Dimi Kaye’s “Just Drive” creates a gentle atmosphere with smooth brightness as Dimi Kaye’s guitar jumps in, captures escape and a boundless road spreading out like hope. The drumbeat paints images of yellow lines and black asphalt rolling under the tires of a powerful car as the guitar slides past like light poles becoming a single blur.

Elevated notes shimmer like heat haze from the pavement, like an endless ribbon of road extending to the horizon as the guitar paints a picture of a roaring motor and a car cruising with easygoing speed. The way in which feelings of adventure and freedom permeate the melody touch my heart, making me want to join the driver in this track.

Dimi Kaye’s guitar solo exudes passion and sensations of liberation, filling the music with consummately played, intertwined notes. All of the joy and simplicity of just driving spills from the guitar, howling like a high performance engine, before the track ends.

Synth Single Review: “System Collapse” by Terrordyne

by Karl Magi

Terrordyne’s “System Collapse” rises ominously with dominating chords ringing before the percussion explodes into a thousand ragged splinters and assaults the track with unrelenting force, while shadowy notes thunder. Speeding forward with unstoppable strength and deadly evil, the main melody climbs to the sky with bloodthirsty strength as percussion erupts beneath it.

The loping beat strides forward while a synth churns with angry dynamism and an elevated tonal pattern contributes uncomfortable tension. Spinning sounds reach a crescendo, exuding intense energy before descending into a repetitive note pattern, hectic and hungry, while the massive drums collide.

Like an echoing pipe organ, higher notes drift with spectral sensations before the bass rips the music open and the drums fracture that space. Gigantically forceful sounds grip me with their destructive potential while the pipe organ rockets forth with terrifying strength and the underlayer batters before the track closes.

Synth Single Review: “Angel Code” by 𝙀𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚

by Karl Magi

𝙀𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚’s “Angel Code” forms a dramatic opening from blazing intensity and dense, power moving below as snarling strings cut with exacting precision before the percussion shatters with jagged strength. Above the relentless charge, revolving tones create a trance-inducing arpeggio. As dramatic tension grows, it reflects a digital entity, heavy with power.

As trickling sounds descend in jerky pulses, the underpinnings move with ferocious insistence, adding to the unsettled feelings flowing past. Juddering notes rocket forward with uncertainty and compelling power, grasping me with the unfathomable force permeating the track.

Wriggling sounds add to the background’s distorted quality while 𝙀𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚’s guitar rises with nobility and ferociously intertwining complexity, scything in a dynamic line. Blinding synth flashes with ever-increasing majesty while the underlayer shudders forward. Fiery chords climb above the rushing beats erupt into the final segment, the guitar full of fearsome light before the music ends.

Synth Single Review: “Silicon Soul” by Stacy Gabriel

by Karl Magi

Stacy Gabriel’s “Silicon Soul” starts with dramatically slicing weight, as a xylophone that creates organic depth and a fat-sounding synth which rounds off the other tones with gentleness as an arpeggio spins unrelentingly. Adventurous feelings emanate from the tones that have a dawn-touched glow, supported by solid foundational weight as the fragility ripples from an arpeggio, before vibrating notes add an exotic feeling, evoking far off lands.

The trumpeting melodic pattern has a staccato cleanliness, contributing forward motion and energy, while an entangling guitar slices, adding to the tension. Echoing xylophone travels outward with haunting grace, arpeggios swirling like parting clouds. A melody transported on lambent tones calls to mind traveling through new realms and landscapes full of strange and wondrous sights.

As the arpeggios orbit, warping and morphing sensations fill the track, generating meditative contemplation for me. The voiceover speaks of searching for an idealized love but finding that getting closer to that love only made the character feel more detached and had him questioning whether or not the "code was broken." In the distance, a never-ending repetition hypnotizes the listener with graceful smoothness to shape the track.

A steadily glimmering synth shivers while the endless notes twirl as the narrator understands that perhaps love isn't a fire for him but "a signal we keep chasing through the static." The foundational throb goes on, supporting the detached floating voiceover as the track fades to a pattering touch. Panpipes exhale with an ethereal feeling as the twisting tones wind around it, carrying the melody that imbues the track with hopeful feeling as an oboe-like instrument creates nasal gentleness and the track fades to a close.
