Synth Single Review: “Time to Kill” by Color Theory

Color Theory’s “Time to Kill” erupts into life with an adrenaline pumping rhythm and an explosive synth burst which joins a speeding line of drums and metallic percussion trembling with life. Color Theory’s electrifying voice with its unique tones carries a melody that haunts the music.

The low end charges fiercely while the vocals rise with velvety force and the melody is silky smooth in comparison to the low end’s acceleration. Varied tones create an energizing percussive line while Color Theory entertains me with his lyrical delivery, contrasting melodic gentleness with violence.

A cascade of fire pours out of the synth while the darkly slicing low end floats before the vocals hover and surging underpinnings balance with glimmering chords that exude encircling light before the song ends on an orchestra hit.

Having left his whole weekend open, our storyteller has "time to kill, a grudge to nurse and nowhere to be. "While some people might call it rude and a petty injustice," he feels that the other person's snide remark wrecked his week so now it's "time to kill."

Referring to the other person as "a grain of sand in a sea of stars," the narrator adds that the universe will continue with or without them. He points out, "my darkest fantasies fill the hours, a swarm of killer bees asphyxiates you."

As he once again says he has time to kill, our storyteller says, "I'm still having flashbacks, feel the rush of blood, the sweat on my neck." Being a gentle person and a "sensitive creature" he's unable to simply forgive and forget so the time to kill has come again.

The narrator emphasizes the insignificance of the song's subject, pointing out that "the cosmos carries on with or without you” and he imagines the other person being eviscerated by "a drove of wild boars."

For our storyteller, this is a simply beautiful vision so, "let's go more extreme to hammer it home, it's time to kill." The song concludes as he dreams of the horrible fate facing the other person as "a helicopter blade decapitates you."

Synth Single Review: “Genlock” by DAC82

DAC82’s “Genlock” begins with droplets of synth sparkling across an expanding base that wobbles before arpeggios grow with compelling strength and a rhythmic pulse underlays the twisting arcs of sound. Drama grows with a wave of glassy fragments and propulsive beats towering while chiming notes flit with a fragile smoothness across a canvas of solid bass and guiding percussion.

Each musical element paints images of dimensions full of luminosity and complexity, places in which one's mind can run free. Exhaling synth sighs as deeper notes tremble and the steady foundation shapes the track as sounds bend and shiver with otherworldly sensations.

Shadows unwind in the distance as I travel on a tide of crystal shards over this detailed musical landscape. Arpeggios rotate as razor-sharp motion balances an elevated filigree and a darker, more string-like sound vibrates with a melodic pattern evoking momentary danger before silence falls.

GammaFlow’s “Velvet Silhouette” is drenched in polished light, rich beauty and a sonic atmosphere that unfolds with luxuriant depth and dreaming nostalgia. The music carries listeners to realms of tropical extravagance, soothing contemplation and emotional relaxation with hints of melancholy to briefly trouble the waters. The way in which GammaFlow and his guests paint this vision of a fantastic realm where dreams collide with pastel fluidity draws listeners further in and creates engagement and interest.

One thing that I consistently enjoy about GammaFlow’s music is his attention to detail and love of creamy, wonderfully lush and intensely smooth sounds that come together to create a musical backdrop which illustrates the thematic concepts of “Velvet Silhouette” with beauty, a sense of serenity and musicality that swells from well-considered synth tones and textures. The way in which he combines different sounds results in a journey that is irresistibly soothing and full of layered gorgeousness.

A roster of superb guest artists also contributes to the compelling nature of “Velvet Silhouette.” Lisa Marie Perkins brings her charming and ear-pleasing voice to bear while Sleepless-Nights casts guitar spells through the music. Sandor Gavin’s own detailed and layered production adds even more richness to the musical package and each of the artists comes together to deepen and intensify the sound created by the artist.

Melodic beauty is also a crucial component to the functioning of “Velvet Silhouette.” Each melody is tailored to transmit varied moods and atmospheres, helping to carry all the listeners on the journey which the album takes. I find myself swept away by the tenderness and relaxation inherent in the melodic writing, touched by fragile emotion and excited by the more energetic segments. The end result is an album that requires multiple listens in order to extract the full pleasure from it.

Deep bells vibrate with soothing calm and the music carries the languid warmth of a tropical sea, while Lisa Marie Perkins’ voice generates relaxing energy.

Sleepless-Nights guitar hovers with a comfortable feeling while the chimes glitter like diamond fragments. The rhythm is solid and deep, adding form to the crystalline structures around it. In the distance, slipping pastel notes drift with barely shaping motion, while Sleepless-Nights guitar bears me gently along a tranquil tide.

A shaping beat supports the soaring guitar, as it reaches out for nostalgic memories of passion gone by, the bells ringing as string like notes create tranquil feelings and the chimes capture reflections on pink glass before the instrument choir generates images of rooms full of soft furniture in which one can return to a dreamy past. The song ends on Sleepless-Nights trembling guitar drifting out into space.

A scintillating halo blossoms around diaphanous notes before fiery refulgence flows and “Conditions” is guided by a smooth but muscled rhythm while a synth reverberates with feelings of acceptance and easy going emotion before a delicate xylophone-like tone conjures the sensation of feathers floating through the air.

Percussion fades as heavenly notes trickle in a soothing line before glittering notes transport me to realms of refracted luminosity. As the active percussion provides forward progress, Brilliant notes limn the music in continual calm while the levitating tones move with gravity free elegance and the steady beat guides all the other elements. The main melody spills like astral radiance across the music while rippling sounds delicately fade out.

“Riviera” spills like opalescent silk from a synth ringing with chiming softness before the solid rhythm pulses like a heartbeat. Misty tones move behind the clean, metallic synth carrying a melody which conjures an image of gliding over clear water in Mediterranean warmth.

Each auditory element deepens the luxurious feeling which permeates this track. Tones like gentle breezes eddy around an effulgent note pattern that seems to dissolve stress and tension, lifting me far above ordinary considerations.

Like a wash of effervescent champagne, sparkling sounds mix with the guitar as it drifts in a polished line, full of summer relaxation and the rhythm adds form. Piano-like notes with additional flickering brightness are curled around a levitating synth that transports the balmy melody before the track exhales to a close.

Luxuriating in trembling tones and the sound of seagulls crying “Rose Velour,” establishes itself with sensations of deeply soothed relaxation while the bass solidity adds rumbling weight and the sharp drums provide a clean contrast to the lushness around them. pan pipes transport me on a melodic line that wraps me up in a silken sheet of sound, like waking to the early morning.

The piping tones have an insubstantial quality as they glisten on the edge of consciousness while the fat synth adds an unctuous depth like the beautifully calming moment before awakening.

The drum beat's sparse quality contrasts with the layers of rich, sensual notes that fall around it. I can imagine myself stepping into a pouring fountain of hot water, the shower cleansing me as I settle back and sigh. As the song ends, this music carries me away, evoking complete laziness.

“Montage” comes to life as unadulterated tranquility unfolds and a resonating, slightly bending tone moves above steadily ticking percussion. immense bass rumbles with thick, resonant warmth while airy tones drift past, transporting a melody full of compassion.

The drumbeat creates smooth guidance while a tremulous, metallic synth floats with a melody that embodies pure serenity. The main melody unfurls like delicate clouds drifting across a warm sun, as a synth with a vocal quality moves with the massive underlayer. Chimes shimmer with disembodied airiness and a prismatic quality permeates the music, wafting me along on a summery zephyr.

“Masquerade” defines nostalgia in words before embodying it in hurting delicacy and unsettled bass that joins swirling tones before the sharp percussive edges support neon tenderness. A melancholy melody dances with an air of uncertainty with the heavy underpinnings and clean percussion, twirling with vague discomfort before silvery bells and a floating flute form a line of twinkling sound.

Despite the warming chords, feelings of indefinable loss and a sense of something missing fill me as the track unfolds. A gentleness in the hovering parts leavens the pain hiding in the background while the flickering sounds and fluting notes have a disconnected quality before the music ends.

Playful ‘80s percussion jumps while mellow resonance moves from the panpipes as “Sunset Roller Coaster” brings in Lisa Marie Perkins' eager voice to capture joy and anticipation. Sleepless-Nights plays a mellow solo, awash in golden-orange tones, floating with easy going grace. The vocals burst out with exuberant enjoyment and a sax cries with intense passion before crystalline brilliance flows. GammaFlow’s production adds a polished sheen to the track as it evolves.

A xylophone resonates with deeply organic sensations and Lisa Marie Perkins pulls me into her emotions with vibrant dynamism. Gliding notes capture the warmth of a midsummer night and Sleepless-Nights guitar levitates with chilled out, yet heartfelt emotion before sunset crimson glistens from the sax and the song closes.

"City lights glow in slow motion, summer air loves our devotion" and there are scenes of happiness in the starlight as the storyteller says, "don't know where we'll go but we wanna go!" As they move through the night, they raise their hands and forget the ground while they’re "lost in the rush of spinning around. "

"Gravity pulls but we don't fall down" and as time fades away, the narrator hears the other person calling and "all through the stars it's getting closer." Despite the highs and lows, she feels alright as she’s " flowing with you in this electric night, ‘round and ‘round till the morning comes, dreams unsung."

“Dreamware” combines notes that are utterly pure and run like spring water along with an underpinning beat that has intensity balanced with pan pipes that sigh with peaceful depth and a vocal synth creating an otherworldly feeling. All of the notes that reflect like diamond shards sparkle as the pan pipes weave a dream journey.

The melody is joined by vibrating tones that undulate while strangely slipping notes fall, feeling like they belong to another dimension. Pipe-like notes evoke a feeling of anti-gravity motion, like being suspended in a space full of shiny gems refracting sunlight.

An easy-going sensation pours around me, transporting me into a place of beauty and ethereal gracefulness, while the main melody generates uplifting emotion and the tones glow before the track comes to a finish.

A flute brushes with intimate delicacy as “Don't Say Goodbye” exhales with a golden luminosity spilling in the distance, creating sensations of magical worlds. Chimes touch with fullness and a minor key tinge, creating balance with the tones that slip past in radiance and grace.

The main melody is ghostly and tender, encapsulating loneliness and a softer feeling. All of the ringing sounds combine to flicker like prisms while the chimes carry a wistfully sliding melody which evokes uncertainty, as if clinging onto the edge of a dream. “Velvet Silhouette” is a joy from start to finish. I've long been a fan of GammaFlow's style and here it is at peak intensity. The addition of talented guests only makes it a more enjoyable listening experience and one which I would gladly repeat.

Feelings of disconnection and change permeate tumbling notes. As the quickly leaping melody spills out a starry sheen, I find myself transmitted to a realm of complexity and uncertainty, moving on the unsettled sonic pulses while refulgence slowly fades into silence.

A subtly swelling sound becomes more forceful as “Through a glass darkly” rises into existence with fragile undertones and thick weight that forms a rich backdrop to the trembling notes that tentatively creep before the stronger rhythm gains motion. “The narrow gate” expands outward with a smooth, muscled drum line and solid underpinnings that growl with dominant weight to create a feeling of growing tension which is broken by a weightless melody drifting peacefully through the air that soothes me.

As the underlayer locks into an even, balanced pulsation the melodic line is transmitted on glittering notes that bloom with tenderness, touching me with gentling sensations. After a brief pause, notes glide like mist broken by the dawn, trailing out while an Illuminating synth flares with diffuse impressions.

A sense of passing into a realm of unending calm permeates the track, calling to mind experiences full of tenderness and an escape from the world's darkness. An arpeggio twirls as sparkling notes flare with incandescence through the other sonic layers before the track comes to an end.

“Alpha and Omega” springs to life as thrilling brilliance spills in a tide of sound while a steady underlayer adds a heartbeat as a sharper edged melody captures a delicate web of feeling. The bass and drums have a solidity and weight that balances the filmy higher notes while the melody fills me with a sense of rising consciousness.

Pipe-like notes evoke angelic choirs as the trickling tones levitate easily and the shaping rhythm returns. A saxophone flies into the music with jazzy dynamism and heartfelt emotion tinged with passionate expression. As a synth tumbles in a smoothly breathy line which creates contemplative flow, “Sunset Overdrive” cascades into being as a bass pulsation moves out into open space and a melody with the quality of a computerized trumpet carries feelings of barely contained excitement and readiness for adventure.

As the drum beat presses onward, the trumpet transmits sensations of a barely resistible compulsion and a distinct thrill along with dramatic danger moving out below it. percussion keeps the urgency ramped up while the ringing notes carry with them possibility and a chance for a night drive. Nervous tones revolve to keep the tension ramped up while the trumpeting synth embroiders the music with fiery light.

The underlayer forces forward while the brilliant tones cry out with anticipation and growing dynamism before full sounding notes contribute a feeling of filigreed complexity. The darker synth gives a hint of lurking danger while the shimmering tones burst out and the relentless underpinnings charged on. tension trembles while the trumpet glimmers and the track comes to an end.

“The Great Commission” expands with increasing burnished brightness and intense peace, as an arpeggio continually reverberates into vast openness while tremulous notes glide and chords climb softly as giant notes slip.

A loping drum beat guides the broad field of tones that spill out like clouds through mountains. Growing illumination and enlightenment infuses the synth above the massively driving beats.

Arpeggiation creates hypnotic states as the background flows with a burnished fluorescence. A mixture of thrill and awe grasps me as the track slides before the huge percussion creates a trance. Blinding incandescence pours from the high notes, evoking eternal power, while the expansive sonic field is scattered with needle-sharp glimmers before silence falls.

With a velvety undulation, “Gone to prepare a place” slides like a soothing bank of pink clouds that bubble up around a scene of natural beauty and the lightly tapping drums form guidance while the trembling synth hints at great strength. The beat rattles into a steady flow while a note pattern carries a feeling of release and hopeful intention, transmitting all of its wonderful promise and soothing feelings into me.

Piano-like notes float past with purity and purpose, capturing scenes of a world beyond this world to which we can escape. A contrasting sharp sound balances the full immersion into unbounded peace as the far off sounds tumble and slow motion. I am carried now in an atmosphere of cradling feelings that wraps me in complete serenity, propelled by the pulsing heartbeat of the music.

“The mirror and the veil” is a spiritual journey and a soothing companion for meditation and relaxation. Sunset Cassette '87 has woven a tapestry that brings in threads of peace, deep thought and worshipful emotion to continue carrying me along.
