Synth Single Review: “Digital Hex” by Skylane Drive

by Karl Magi

Skylane Drive’s “Digital Hex” is a broken landscape of jagged shards as an evil laugh breaks out above a smashing rhythm, driven by intimidating beats and looming bass. A tapestry of blinding synth tones creates a noble feeling before a shadowy melody touched by growing danger drifts, expressing melancholy as well as existential pain.

In a classically Victorian Gothic mode, this track mingles emotional pain and lingering fear, creating a poisonous brew. A wolf howls as lacerating, computerized-sounding notes convey a sensation of technological power before the string-like synth captures dramatic intensity and overwhelming emotion.

Creaking sounds cut with ragged energy as a mournful theme arises, grasping me with its aching sensations and tragic import. A more energizing melodic line cries with orchestral power, full with feelings of pain and loss, before the undulating metallic pattern slices and silence falls.
