Synth Single Review: “Same Time Next Summer” by The Highway Club

The Highway Club’s “Same Time Next Summer” spreads like the memory of sunlight with soft sounds dissolving like morning mist and nostalgia before the huge rhythm drives and the guitar leaps with encouragement. The resonant and poignant vocals capture remembrance and yearning for a beautiful past that can never return.

Mournfulness and joy intertwine as both Ben Wilson and John Bell’s vocals rise above a synth sparkling like sunlight on blue water. The chorus cascades around me, summoning my own dreams of youth, while the vocals emphasize the sweet ache of that loss.

The guitar climbs with rounded tones, showering my ears in a mixture of happiness and wistful absence. Both singers put conviction and passion their voices as the main theme encapsulates the positivity which mixes with a melancholy pang.

On the last day of summer, our narrator says, "we just felt so alive and the whole world stopped spinning." They felt something hanging in the air "like we found our forever.” He adds that they haven't got anywhere left to be and it's "just you, just them, just me. "

"If tomorrow comes then let it come ‘cause tonight we're forever young" and the storyteller knows these nights are the ones they'll remember as they "run wild through the end of summer. "Everyone is there and everyone's alive with their "hands in the air underneath the lights."

In conclusion, our storyteller says "it was the last day of summer and we could feel something change, it haunted the moment like it would never come again.”
