Synth Single Review: “Forever Lover” by Spring Break ’83
by Karl Magi
Spring Break ’83’s “Forever Lover” is an ardent declaration of affectionate desire. The song opens as strongly flowing bass moves beneath Indigo’s wordless, diaphanous vocals. The track is permeated with wistful thought while a mid-high synth floats tranquilly. Her breath-warmed voice glides with caressing emotion as the drums touch lightly and the bass guides the music forward.
The vocal melody brims with affectionate passion and Indigo ensorcels me with her expression. 10eighty6’s radiant synth carries a melody that blends fervour and serenity. Indigo’s voice traces with misty delicacy as the atmosphere fills with tender anticipation, the drums gently shaping the sound.
The lead synth spills iridescent warmth while the rhythm moves smoothly. Indigo’s voice remains steeped in longing as arpeggiating notes sweep broadly, sparkling like oceanic sunlight. The chorus takes on a soothing, hypnotic quality; percussion falls away and the entire song floats in delicate light before silence descends.
“Last night the stars aligned and they told me everything is gonna be all right,” but tonight her heart is on fire as she follows glowing neon signs. It feels like the right moment to confess that “My love is burning for you.” She wonders if they are meant to last forever because “I wanna be your ever lover.” She longs to be called the other person’s treasure and for them to fall in love together.
“Come here, take a step with me,” she pleads, admitting she is so nervous she can “ever-barely-hardly breathe” as the other person brings her to her knees. “I’ll endeavour forever, run away with me,” she promises. As her love continues to burn brightly, she reaches her final declaration: “I want to say I do.”
