Synth Single Review: “Giving Up On You (Final Djs Remix)” by Valley Lights & Final Djs

Valley Lights’ “Giving Up On You (Final Djs Remix)” sweeps with a joyfully leaping piano and hollow percussion balanced with Kai Mammoser's burning emotion, brimming over with need. The pumping house beat forms a dancefloor-filling pattern as the vocal melody pours out intense attraction, transmitted by Kai Mammoser's magnetic voice. A guitar adds another radiant element and the vocals echo with undeniable desire as the rhythm shapes the song.

Summer energy cascades from the sonic elements in a way that I find strongly pleasing. The dancing piano contributes uplift and the chorus flies with undimmed joy above the actively intertwining percussive elements. Kaarin Zoe Lee’s voiceover fits well into the thumping beat which frolics with a dawn-touched guitar and climbing piano, as bright as a tropical sunrise. The chorus encapsulates the love and hope within Kai Mammoser's voice. Now the low end grooves powerfully with varied percussion until the music stops.

The song tells the story of a painful breakup that catches the narrator completely off guard. Despite knowing that he has to move on, he's still deep in love and can't let go or give up hope. He's haunted by the ghost of his beloved, asking her to save him from his own crushing emotions and help him deal with the loss.
