Synth Single Review: “Working Week” by Rogue FX & Hollywood Brown

Rogue FX & Hollywood Brown’s “Working Week” zaps into life before an undulating and pitch perfect ‘80s groove and a melody echoing with technological dynamism before Rogue FX's unmistakably catchy performance delivers with entertaining effect above the disco groove.

The chorus is accented by swirling strings that counterpoint the bouncing rhythmic underpinnings, the vocals levitating with confident energy. Notes slide past with active percussion before a wriggling little figure gives a booty-shaking feeling as Rogue FX catches the song's mood and the foundation shimmies. Hollywood Brown plays a guitar solo which fits the song’s mood, flickering with playful strength above orchestra hits and low end motion.

As he takes care of business, hitting the working week, our narrator says that he's "switching to ‘always on’ mode with the slick technique" and exuding positive energy. He adds, "got to earn my dough, I'm always looking forward" because it isn't what you know but who.

"When the weekend comes, time to play around" because he's earned his stripes. He's out on the town because "it's the spoils of war" and all’s fair in love. He talks about the secrets of his success on his "golden run."

There's a great deal of communication with the high stakes they face. He says "forecast is optimistic, time to diversify" as he feels like a million dollars and is making a million more. He concludes, "fake it until you make it, pushing an open door.”
