Synth Single Review: “In the Silence remix” by Valley Lights & Cor64

by Karl Magi

Valley Lights & Cor64’s “In the Silence remix” establishes a technological sensation with rapid 8-bit note runs above the tidal surge of the underpinnings and the bell-like main theme summoning dramatic urgency. The deep foundation is cut by vaulting 8-bit notes and a soaring synth before Valley Lights’ striking voice is emphasized.

Actively rebounding percussion is accompanied by 8-bit tones flying with exciting liveliness as orchestral hits explode and the chorus rises in a cloud of strength, supported by orchestra hits. Undulating computerized sounds transmit the melody, full of need, while the vocals create a powerful impression as the varied drums add a fascinating sonic signature.

The minor key main theme reaches out with a compelling sense of change and progress while the orchestra hits give a vibrant radiance to the track. I enjoy the way in which Cor64 retains the original song’s qualities while bringing a unique twist to the sound. The synth solo, with its 8-bit sounds, is intricate and exciting. The chorus evokes the affecting emotion in the lyrics before the track concludes.

The narrator feels disconnected from himself and the world. Everything changes when he encounters the song’s subject, who breaks through his isolation and gives his life meaning and direction.
