Synth Single Review: “Joy Ride (Ultra Mega Midnight Remix)” by Mission 87

by Karl Magi

Mission 87's “Joy Ride (Ultra Mega Midnight Remix)” is full of images of a dream 1980s Miami. The remix begins as brilliant bell-like notes erupt with molten light and a steady kick drum pulsates. The melody is frolicking and full of uplifting strength while the bass moves with hollow drums to create energetic motion.

Chimes sparkle with oceanic brightness while winding sounds drift through the distance. The guitar solo moves like a Ferrari Testarossa through Miami light, sliding past palm trees with a V12 growl and reflecting heart-racing acceleration as the car merges onto the interstate. The underlayer is endlessly driving while the guitar flies with a chilled-out yet dynamic sound.

Broadly vibrating synth washes carry a positive melody, filling me with encouragement. As the guitar cries out, the track exudes exciting life, full of pastel suits and neon nights. The glistening melodic line sings with unalloyed happiness while the foundation adds shape.

A celebratory feeling permeates the music as the guitar returns, creating a fulfilling thrill while the bass continues to pulse. The song flies to an end with the melody still singing in radiant motion.
