Synth Single Review: “One In A Million” by Galaxy Hunter
by Karl Magi
Galaxy Hunter’s “One In A Million” explores a powerful attraction. The song starts as thunder strikes and an explosive synth spills out with dazzling radiance. The foundation is huge and propulsive while a sliding synth erupts forward and Galaxy Hunter’s voice is whispering and shadowy as it captures the passion in the lyrics. Drums stutter before they leap forward with a disco flare, creating a massive and addictive groove.
The chorus calls out with intensity and desire while hard-hitting percussion punches. The synth bursts out with ferocious luminosity while the hammering underlayer is unstoppable. I enjoy the way in which Galaxy Hunter catches hold of all of the ardent emotion in the lyrics while tonal patterns splash with flaring light. The distinctive vocal performance slips with engaging dynamism while the steadily driving underlayer is irresistible. The chorus vaults skyward with fervent expression and glowing notes rise while the pumping low end charges before silence falls.
Telling the song’s subject that “you intoxicate my senses while breaking all the rules,” our storyteller says that she won’t let his “spirit off your hands” as she makes him blind like a fool. He adds that he is running out of chances on his way to paradise while “looking for some weak alibis, ignoring my own advice.”
The narrator has lost control of his body and soul “just to see you igniting fire in your eyes.” He trembles when she is close and tries to drown his fears, but he can’t hide from the mirror. He adds, “you’re one in a million, queen of dominion,” explaining that he needs the other person lying next to him because “your heat feels so divine.”
“You electrify my senses, I’m always longing for your touch,” and our storyteller can feel the other person’s presence intensely, adding, “I guess I never felt it too much.” The song’s subject expects his true devotion as they hover on the line between pleasure and pain. Our storyteller concludes, “I’m lost in the storm of wild emotions, chains of love burning into flames.”
Synth Single Review: “Almost Forever” by Aisle 9
by Karl Magi
Aisle 9’s “Almost Forever” exhales with deep-water feelings as it evolves. The piece commences with Aisle 9’s guitar hovering with tentative, feathery sensations while chiming notes ring with fragile radiance. As the drum beat creates shape, the gliding synth calls out with extreme tranquility, drifting past like the ocean’s gentle waves.
Elevated notes shiver past while the guitar slides with aquatic serenity and xylophone sounds cry out. The drums gives form to the delicacy slipping past above it. Oceanic phosphorescence shines from the lead synth while the underpinnings cruise onward.
Wave sounds drift again and tightly gleaming notes move into the openness as percussion throbs. I find myself transported to a realm of deep blue contemplation as the guitar melody fills with jazzy, laid-back emotion and wistful remembrance. The underlayer throbs on while the chimes exude a bioluminescent sheen and the guitar levitates with peaceful ease before silence falls.
Synth Single Review: “Crimson Queen” by Prince Alucard
by Karl Magi
Prince Alucard’s “Crimson Queen” invokes a sinister force with malevolent intent. The track begins as swirling notes create a tense sense of dark drama. The bass and drums trip in an uneven but terrifying pulse, generating a feeling of extreme discomfort. Shattering notes rip a jagged hole in the music as the underpinnings leap forcefully.
Sharply broken synth lacerates while the background swims with shadowy, unhallowed power. Now the beat forms an unstoppable wall while the spectral intertwining of the medium-high tones supports a harpsichord-like synth that wriggles in a mesmerizing pattern. High notes cry out with ghostly sensations before they drop away as a sobbing voice cries for help.
Weird tones shimmy and slide like something unholy and hungry. Ticking percussion moves as the track grasps me with its sense of menace. Continually intertwining harpsichord notes invoke a ritualistic trance in my mind. As the arpeggios twist, disembodied sounds float and the shards of the low end growl into quiet.
Synth Single Review: “Groovus Maximus" by Russell Nash
by Karl Magi
Russell Nash’s “Groovus Maximus" brings the funk to the party. The track begins as funkily cascading notes move with a nasal-sounding wriggle and the drums begin to hammer heavily. The beat is steady and smooth while shimmying notes tumble with cool energy and the cymbals begin to add a metallic flicker. The groove is undeniable and locks into the pocket while the elevated synth sparkles in the distance.
A sharp-angled tonal pattern moves through the music with cutting precision and the vibrating notes around it bounce energetically. The snare drum has a crispness to it while the swelling notes around it radiate azure light. I enjoy the way in which funk mixes with fascinating timbres while the cymbals continue to burst with luminosity. Elevated notes shimmer and dance through the music with a light feeling while the underlayer is locked in.
The string-like synth reverberates through the music with a chilled-out, hip-shaking feeling while the twanging tones explode with radiance. The foundation continues to drive on while the taut, burbling notes ring out and the track comes to an end with the disco beat creating dynamism.
