Synth Single Review: “Child's Play” by HeartBeatHero

by Karl Magi

HeartBeatHero’s “Child's Play” is full of night sounds and palpable, creeping fear as it snaps with a clap of thunder and unsettling tones carried on dramatic strings steal in with ever-increasing sensations of menace. A wobbling synth is joined by Chucky's chilling, childish voice before the shattering beats erupt and seething darkness oozes out into the background.

The drums briefly break before accelerating and a horrifying feeling shivers through the main theme. As the strings circle, a sinister chant is joined by malevolent guitar, surging with deadly strength. The percussion smashes as a synth tightly twirls, adding to the feelings of terrible evil slipping ever closer, imploring the aid of dark powers.

A Theremin-like synth floats as the attacking rhythm rockets forward, filling me with foreboding. A chorus of shadowy notes is cut by twirling strings before the chilling voice of the doll closes things out.
