Synth Single Review: “Strange Air” by Love Spirals Downwards

by Karl Magi

Love Spirals Downwards’ “Strange Air” begins with Ryan Lum’s guitar echoing into a mood of complete calm as Anji Lum's intimate vocals express irresistible attraction above a hovering guitar. Beats rock the music like a soft tide while Anji Lum's vocals convey unavoidable passion and the piano creates a jazzy riff as the guitar moves with lissome sensations.

As the guitar reverberates into open space, Anji Lum catches the soul-deep desire in the lyrics, a melody slipping past on Ryan Lum’s guitar which seizes barely contained yearning. Anji Lum has a strength of expression that pulls me into the feelings that swirl through and carry the song to a conclusion with chilled-out levitation.

As Mars is in conjunction with Venus, the protagonist speaks about "the strange air" between her and the song's subject that causes "unexpected chemistry." There seems to be no rhyme or reason but her heart is "full of treason" because their pull is "planetary."

Wondering why the song's subject had to sit so near to her and smile the way they did,  the narrator says that she is fighting "to keep my face composed" as all of her thoughts begin to wander.  Once again, she mentions the strange air hanging between them and blames it on astrology.

In conclusion, our storyteller says, "Scorpio season, me in my feelings, is it just momentary?"
