Synth Single Review: “Lucid” by Alex Boychuk

by Karl Magi

Alex Boychuk’s “Lucid” moves between the void and the heavens with low tones rumbling while a pearlescent synth drifts in a curtain of twinkling sound before funky slap bass and ticking snare drums create another energy level. The percussion becomes more insistent as fat bass growls in round tones before panpipes conjure up free flight and weightless elegance.

I picture myself riding rising thermals and soaring through the clouds with the unfolding of this iridescent theme. Ringing sounds vibrate while bass adds density to the underlayer before a gauzy, elevated synth swoops and slips into breezy air currents.

The bells ring with fragile refulgence as the panpipes surf on sound waves as if escaping the bounds of Earth. Huge electric bass brings the contrast once more as digitally dancing notes airily transport a melody that lifts off above the darkness of the world and flows in the billowing clouds before coming to an end.
